The unbeaten Brigham Young Cougars visit rival Texas Christian Horned Frogs on Thursday (8 pm ET, ESPN), in a Mountain West Conference matchup that most sportsbooks have as a pick’em.
But that hasn’t stopped NCAA Football bettors from backing BYU, which is getting nearly 72 per cent of wagers placed on the game at Sportsbook.com.
BYU opened as 1½-point favorites but the spread has shrunk to 0 at Sportsbook.com. The over/under total is 45½.
BYU is undefeated at 6-0 SU and TCU is 6-1. Both teams are undefeated in the Mountain West Conference, with BYU 2-0 SU and TCU 3-0 SU.
The Cougars are 4-1 and 3-2 ATS in the past five meetings, including a 27-22 win when the teams last squared off on Nov. 8 last season. BYU fell short of covering the 7-point home spread but the score made it over the total of 46½.
Last week, BYU quarterback Max Hall completed 22 of 34 passes for 258 yards and three TDs as BYU ran over New Mexico 21-3. BYU failed to cover the 23.5-point spread, and the 24 points went well below the total of 48.
Hall has tossed 20 touchdowns with just four interceptions this season. In last year’s matchup with TCU, Hall threw for over 300 yards and a touchdown.
TCU beat Colorado State 13-7 in Week 7. Texas Christian couldn’t cover as 13-point road favorites and the score went under the 49.5-point total.
On the injury front, Cougars WR Spencer Hafoka (foot) is listed as questionable.
