Make some bucks off Barry Bonds

July 12, 2007

With all the hype and anti-hype surrounding Barry Bond’s chase of Hank Aaron’s home run record, there is one thing that hasn’t been talked about much: the money that bettors could make when Bonds finally breaks the record.

Like him or loathe him, the fact is the San Francisco Giants’ slugger is going to set a new home run record, and you may as well make a few bucks off it. Many, many sportsbooks are offering Prop bets on Bonds’ imminent record-breaking home run.

For example, Bodog has a wide variety of wagers – some serious, some silly – that will make the Bonds Watch much more fun. There are straightforward bets, like: What will the pitch count be when Barry Bonds breaks the HR Record? You can choose among 0 balls, 0 strikes, or 1 ball, 2 strikes, and so on. The lowest odds are 1 ball, 0 strikes (3-1) while the biggest are for 3 balls, 0 strikes (12-1).

There’s also a few that are essentially a flip of the coin, like: When Bonds breaks the record, will the Pitcher’s Jersey number be odd or even?
