NCAA Football Betting: Public jumping on BYU’s big spread

September 30, 2008

The undefeated BYU Cougars visit the unranked Utah State Aggies in College Football action on Friday.

No. 8 BYU is a 28½-point favorite at, and despite the huge spread, Public Betting information indicates nearly 72 per cent of bettors are backing the Cougars.

But that shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the Cougars are a perfect 7-0 SU against Utah over the past seven meetings. Two seasons ago, BYU blanked Utah 38-0 as a 15-point home favorite.

BYU quarterback QB Max Hall continued his winning ways, throwing three touchdowns as the Cougars shut out Wyoming 44-0 in Week 4. The Cougars (4-0 SU, 2-1 ATS) covered the 29-point spread and the score went under the total of 52.

Utah State (1-3 SU, 2-2 ATS) put up 35 points in the second half in Week 4 en route to an easy 42-17 win over Idaho. The Aggies had no trouble covering the 5-point spread and the score went over the total of 58.5.

BYU is 5-0 SU in its past five both overall and on the road. The total has gone over in four of BYU’s past six on the road. Utah State is 4-2 ATS in its past six but 2-7 ATS in its past nine at home.

BYU has no significant injuries, while Utah will be without fullback Jacob Actkinson, who’s out for the season with a shoulder injury.
