Territorial Cup Preview: Arizona State Sun Devils at Arizona Wildcats

November 30, 2010

The annual rivalry game between the Arizona Wildcats and the Arizona Sun Devils, the Territorial Cup, gets the national spotlight on Thursday, December 2, 2010 with the Wildcats needing a win to secure a quality bowl invitation after limping down the stretch run dropping three straight.

The NCAA football odds list the Wildcats as six-point betting favorites with an over/under of 55.

This game features the two best passing offenses in the Pac 10 with Arizona’s 314.0 yards per game good for ninth in the nation and Arizona State’s 288.2 yards being good enough for twelfth.

Both of these teams have rather middling defenses with the Sun Devils being better against the run, but the Wildcats having a slight advantage in points (20.8-24.6) and total yards (339.5-362.5). Expect both teams to be effective moving the ball.

The Arizona State Sun Devils will be without their starting quarterback Steven Threet due to a concussion, but backup Brock Osweiler looked good in relief picking up 380 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions against the UCLA Bruins last week in a 55-34 blowout.

The Arizona Wildcats meanwhile has struggled to three straight losses falling to the Stanford Cardinal (13), USC Trojans and Oregon Ducks (1). Stanford and Oregon clearly out-classed them and USC used the run to control the game and eke out the win, something that the Wildcats won’t have to worry about against the Sun Devils.

The Sun Devils are 6-2-1 ATS this season while the Wildcats are 3-7 ATS. While losses to the top teams in the Pac 10 are not a reason to panic, Arizona is has a rather large number to cover against a team that they don’t have any big matchup advantage over.

While an outright upset seems a little unlikely, the six points is too much to ignore for any CFB betting enthusiast.

November 23, 2010

In Atlanta this weekend (1 pm ET, FOX), the Green Bay Packers will take on the Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta.

Over their division rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, The Packers are coming off of an impressive victory. On the season to this point, the Falcons have been steady and consistent all year and have posted a record of 8-2.

In NFL odds over under sits at 48 the Falcons will be the 2 point favorites.

Even though it’s clear that they have returned to form, the Packers looked like they were headed down the wrong path a few weeks back. Aaron Rodgers may be rounding off into the type of quarterback that he was last season as the Packers have won 4 of their last 5. The Packers may be the favorites from the NFC If Rodgers can get things rolling like last season.

Through a balanced attack the Packers have really dominated their opponents. In the air and nearly 130 yards per game on the ground, they average over 240 yards a game. In their game against the Packers, Their running game will be an important factor. On the ground, the Packers have allowed 112 yards per game. Jorge Rivera and Alessio Sakara will Take One Each Other at UFC 122

November 11, 2010

At UFC 122, Jorge Rivera and Alessio Sakara will take one each other. In Germany this event will take place. This is only the UFC’s second visit to Germany. This should be an excellent matchup as these fighters will be fighting at 185 pounds.

To this point, both of these fighters have had successful MMA careers. Out of his 25 opportunities, Rivera has managed 18 wins. Out of his 22 matches, Alessio Sakara has won 15. They have both not been quite as dominant in their matches within the UFC, while these records are impressive. Rivera and Sakara both fighters are over .500 the record, even though 6-4 for Sakara and 8-5 for Rivera do not sound nearly as impressive as their records outside of the UFC.

The momentum that Rivera has gained recently has been the key for him. He has bounced back after losing 5 of his first 10 UFC matches. With a 3 fight-winning streak, Rivera will enter this matchup.

With several victories in a row, Sakara has likewise strung together. In his MMA career, even though he had hit a rough patch, he has bounced back with 3 consecutive wins at all. With a lot of momentum behind these fighters, they will both enter the ring.

As most people thought it would take place several events ago, this fight will be highly anticipated one. Even though they were initially scheduled to square off in UFC 118, Rivera sustained a broken arm and was unable to take part in the event.

NFL – Patriots take on Browns – Preview

November 3, 2010

This Sunday, the New England Patriots will head to Cleveland to take on the Browns. The Patriots will be the 4.5-point favorites in football betting odds, in this matchup, despite being on the road. At 44 sits the total for the game.

The Patriots seem to pull out every year at some point and they have shown resilience. If the team would be able to survive with all of the talk of Randy Moss, many people wondered. It seems that the Patriots will be able to keep on rolling no matter who they have on the field, in the end. The Patriots seem to get better with each week and they have lost just one game on the season.

The Patriots have had a lot of success against the Browns recently and they are on a 5 game winning streak. The Patriots have managed to win 5 games, over the last 6 contests between the two teams. The running game will be the key for the Patriots. They were able to move the ball more easily because of it and last week they managed to find room to run against the Vikings.

The Browns are coming home where they generally play well, although they have just 2 wins on the young season. The Browns have managed to put together a good home record recently, despite winning just 7 of their last 25 total games. Coming into this week, they have won 4 of their last 6 home games.

To put the ball in the end zone, the Browns need to find a way. While they score 13 fewer points per game, they only average about 40 fewer yards per game than the Patriots on offense. The Browns will have a shot at winning games more consistently, if they can find a way to put the ball in the end zone.
